Import Your Whole Walmart List Into a School Supply List in One Step

Already built your classroom supplies in a Walmart shopping list? ClassGear now imports the entire list at once — every item, link, photo, and quantity — so you can share it with parents in seconds instead of retyping it.

ClassGear just launched a feature teachers have been asking for: paste a shared Walmart list link and ClassGear imports the whole list at once. Every item, product link, photo, and quantity comes across automatically. If you've already gathered your classroom supplies in a Walmart shopping list, you no longer have to add them to ClassGear one by one — one paste brings the entire list over, ready to share with parents.

The problem this solves

A lot of teachers already build their supply list right on Walmart's website. It's a natural place to shop: you add crayons, folders, glue sticks, and composition books to a list as you find them, set the quantity you need, and end up with a complete, priced-out list of classroom supplies.

The catch was getting that list somewhere parents could actually use. A Walmart list lives behind a Walmart account and isn't built for sharing with 25 families. Moving it into a clean, link-ready supply list used to mean copying each item across by hand.

That's gone now. If your supplies already live in a Walmart list, ClassGear brings them over in a single step.

How to import a Walmart list into ClassGear

1. Open your shared Walmart list and copy its link. In the Walmart app or on Walmart.com, open your list, choose Share, and copy the shared-list URL (it looks like walmart.com/lists/shared/...). 2. Open your list in ClassGear — or create a new one at classgear.co. 3. Paste the Walmart link into the box that says "Paste a product link from Amazon, Target, Walmart…" and add it. 4. ClassGear recognizes it's a full list, not a single product, and shows a window: "Looks like a Walmart list — we found [N] items." 5. Review the items, uncheck anything you don't want, and click Import [N] items.

Every selected item lands in your ClassGear list — with its name, product link, photo, and quantity already filled in — ready to reorder and share.

What comes across from your Walmart list

ClassGear reads the shared list and imports the details for each product automatically:

From your Walmart listInto your ClassGear list
Product nameItem title, filled in
Product page link"Buy on Walmart" link parents can tap
Product photoItem image, so parents recognize the exact product
Quantity you setThe quantity carries over (2 glue sticks stays 2)

Because the real product link comes across, parents get a direct "Buy on Walmart" button on every imported item — they tap it, land on the exact product, and check out with their own account and pickup option.

You choose what makes it onto your list

The import isn't all-or-nothing. When ClassGear shows the items it found, each one has a checkbox. Uncheck the box for anything that shouldn't go on the parent-facing list — a personal item you added to the same Walmart list, a duplicate, or something you're providing yourself — and it won't be imported. Nothing is added until you click Import, so you always see exactly what parents will see before you commit.

After the import: reorder, add, and share

Bringing your Walmart list in is the starting point. From there, ClassGear's other tools take over:

  • Reorder items with the up/down arrows to put essentials first or group by subject
  • Add items from other stores by pasting an Amazon, Target, or Staples product link on a new item — you're not locked into one retailer
  • Share the list as a single link or a QR code — one tap and every parent sees the full list with direct "Buy on [store]" links

The result is a supply list parents can actually shop, built from work you'd already done.

Why ClassGear is the best free way to share a school supply list

ClassGear is free for teachers — no subscription, no paywall, no limit on lists. It earns a small affiliate commission when a parent buys through a product link, paid by the retailer, never by you or your families.

  • Import a whole Walmart list in one step instead of retyping items
  • Automatic product links from Amazon, Walmart, Target, Staples, and more
  • One shareable link or QR code — works on any phone, no app to install
  • Parents shop directly from clear "Buy on Walmart" links, cutting the back-and-forth questions
  • Always up to date — edit your list any time and the shared link reflects it instantly

Frequently asked questions

Is the Walmart list import free?

Yes. Like everything in ClassGear, importing a Walmart list is completely free. There's no limit on how many lists you import.

Where do I find the shareable link for my Walmart list?

Open your list in the Walmart app or on Walmart.com, look for the Share option, and copy the link it gives you. That shared-list URL is what you paste into ClassGear. A private list link you copy from your browser's address bar may not work — use the one from the Share button.

Can I review the items before they're added?

Yes. ClassGear shows you every item it found and lets you uncheck any you don't want. Nothing is added to your list until you click Import, so it's a preview step, not an automatic commit.

Does the quantity from my Walmart list carry over?

Yes. If you set a quantity on an item in your Walmart list — say, 3 packs of crayons — that quantity comes across into ClassGear.

What if some items don't import correctly?

Every imported item is fully editable. You can fix a name, change a quantity, swap the photo, or remove an item entirely, just like any item you add by hand. If ClassGear can't read a particular list, you can still add its items individually by pasting each product link.

Does this work with Target or Amazon lists too?

Right now, full-list import is built for Walmart shared lists. You can still add individual products from Target, Amazon, Staples, and other retailers by pasting a single product link on an item — the name, image, and store fill in automatically. Support for more list sources is something we're actively exploring.

Do I need a Walmart account to be shared with?

No. Parents don't need a Walmart list or account to use your ClassGear list. Once the items are imported, ClassGear gives you a normal shareable link and QR code that anyone can open on any phone.
