Parents Can Now Search for Their School Right From the ClassGear Homepage
No more hunting for a link. Parents can now search for their school by name or city from ClassGear and jump straight to its supply lists — and schools can choose whether to appear.
ClassGear now lets parents search for their school by name or city and jump straight to its supply lists — no waiting for a teacher to send a link. Type a school name, pick it from the results, and you'll land on a page with every grade's list, ready to shop. It's free, needs no account, and schools that prefer to stay private can opt out.
How do parents find their school on ClassGear?
Look for "Find your school" in the top menu on any page, or visit the school search page directly. Start typing your school's name or city and matching schools appear instantly. Select yours to open its page, where supply lists are organized by grade and class.
This removes the most common friction parents hit: needing a teacher to hand them a link before they can do anything. Now the list is reachable on its own.
Why this matters for parents
A school supply list only helps if parents can actually get to it. Before, that meant a teacher had to share a link by email, text, or a school portal — and if a parent missed it, they were stuck. Search fixes that:
- No link required. Find the list yourself, whenever it's convenient.
- Name or city search. Two schools share a name? Filter by your town to land on the right one.
- Everything in one place. Your school's page shows each grade's list together, so siblings in different grades are covered in one visit.
Can schools choose not to appear in search?
Yes. Appearing in search is a setting each school controls. School admins can turn it off from their school's Manage page, and the school will no longer show up when parents search.
Turning search off doesn't take the page down — anyone with a direct link can still open it. It simply makes the school unlisted rather than private, the same way an unlisted video works. This keeps control in the hands of the people running each school's page while still making most lists easy for parents to find.
How is this different from sharing a link?
Sharing a direct link still works exactly as before, and it's still the fastest way to send a specific list to your families. Search is an additional path — useful when a parent doesn't have the link, or when a family wants to browse everything their school has posted. The two work together:
| Method | Best for |
|---|---|
| Direct link / QR code | A teacher sending one specific list to their class |
| School search | A parent finding their school's lists without a link |
Why ClassGear is the easiest free way to share school supply lists
This update reflects what ClassGear is built to do: make supply lists effortless to share and effortless to find — for free.
- Free for teachers, always. No subscription, no paywall. ClassGear earns a small affiliate commission when a parent buys through a link, paid by the retailer — never by you or your families.
- Found two ways. Share a direct link or QR code, or let parents search and find you.
- Built for parents. Clear lists organized by grade, with one-tap "Buy on [store]" links to the exact items teachers chose.
- Schools stay in control. Each school decides whether it appears in search.
Frequently asked questions
Do parents need an account to search for their school?
No. School search is open to everyone — parents can find their school and view its supply lists without signing up or logging in.
What if my school doesn't show up in search?
Your school may have chosen to stay unlisted, or it may not have a page on ClassGear yet. In either case, ask your teacher to share their list link directly — direct links always work, even for unlisted schools.
How do I turn off search for my school?
If you're a school admin, open your school's Manage page and uncheck "List this school in ClassGear search." Your page stays reachable by direct link; it just won't appear in search results.
Does turning off search delete my school's page?
No. Turning off search only removes the school from search results. The school page and all its lists stay live, and anyone with the direct link can still view them.
Is searching for a school free?
Yes. Like everything on ClassGear, searching for your school and viewing its supply lists is completely free.
